Wolves Extend Win Streak to Six Heading into Final Regular Season Game

Aberdeen S.D. – Northern State University women's basketball team picked up a 57-44 victory over Minnesota Duluth Friday night. The Wolves improve to 23-4 overall and 18-3 in the NSIC, heading into the final game of the regular season.
 
It was a slow start by both teams scoring a combined 15 points in the first quarter, as the Wolves led 9-6. The Wolves only shot 32.1 percent from the field in the first half, but took a 7-point lead heading into the halftime break. NSU bounced back in the fourth quarter, out-scoring the Bulldogs 19-12 to secure a 13-point victory.
 
NSU shot 41.2 percent from the field for the game, 36.4 percent from the 3-point line, and had 44 rebounds as a team. Defensively, Northern State held the Bulldogs to 30.9 percent from the field, 19.0 percent from behind the arc, and only allowed 28 total rebounds. Northern State also added, 24 points in the paint, 10 points off of 9 Bulldog turnovers, and 10 points off of 14 offensive rebounds.
 
The Wolves were led by Jill Conrad with 20 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and made both 3-point attempts. Miranda Ristau was the other Wolves player in double figures with 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Brianna Kusler had nine points, six rebounds, and five assists. Alexis Tappe had four points and two assists.
 
The last starter for the Wolves was Brynn Flakus, she had four points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. The top scorer off the bench for the Wolves was Sara Tvedt, she had four points, four rebounds, and one assist. Jessi Mari had three points, three rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal.
 
Haley Froelich was the last player in the scoring column for the Wolves with two points, and three rebounds. Anika Fredrick had one steal and Gabby Laimer had one rebound for Northern State off the bench.
 
The Wolves are back in action Saturday afternoon for Senior Night against St. Cloud State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. against the Huskies.
