Aberdeen S.D. – Northern State University Women's Basketball team picked up a 71-55 victory on senior night against St. Cloud State. With the win the Wolves are Co-champs of the North Division and the NSIC. NSU improves to 24-4 overall and 19-3 in the NSIC.
It was back and forth in the first quarter, as no lead got bigger than four until the final bucket to take a five point lead heading into the second quarter. The Wolves shot 52.0 percent in the first half to take a seven point lead heading into the halftime break. The only quarter that the Wolves lost was the third quarter and they were out-scored 16-13. The Wolves out-scored the Huskies in the fourth quarter 20-8 to secure a 16-point win in the final regular season game.
Wolves shot 52.0 percent from the field for the game, 27.3 percent from the 3-point line, and had 36 rebounds as a team. Defensively, the Wolves held the Huskies to 38.5 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from behind the arc, and only allowed four offensive rebounds. NSU also added 22 points in the paint, 16 points off of 16 turnovers, and 11 second chance points off of eight offensive rebounds.
Miranda Ristau had a career night with 35 points, 12 rebounds, two assists, and two steals. The only other player in double figures was
Jessi Marti, she had 11 points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Alexis Tappe had seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Jill Conrad had six points for the Wolves with four rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
Gabby Laimer had six points, and two rebounds for Northern State.
Brynn Flakus had two points, three assists, and the only two blocks for the Wolves. Off the bench,
Brianna Kusler had four points, four assists, and four rebounds.
Haley Froelich had three rebounds off the bench.
Wolves are back in action Wednesday night for the first round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Women's Basketball Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. against Upper Iowa University.
