Bemidji, Minn. – The Northern State women's basketball picked up the first conference win of the season with a 69-57 victory over Bemidji State Friday evening. With the win, the Wolves improve to 3-4 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
Northern State started the game on an 8-2 run and finished the quarter up 14-8. Bemidji State out-scored the Wolves 17-15 in the second quarter but the Wolves took a four-point lead into the intermission. In the first half, Wolves shot 44.4 percent from the field, 5-of-6 from the free throw line and 20 rebounds.
With 1:56 left in the third quarter, NSU jumped out to an eight point lead and finished the quarter up eight. Northern State ended up with the biggest lead of the game in the fourth quarter, up 15 and coast to a 12 point victory. On the game, NSU finished the game shooting 48.0 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from behind the arc, and went 18-for-22 from the free throw line.
Brianna Kusler tallied her second double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Lexi Wadsworth picked up her first career double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. She also tallied three assists on the night.
Alayna Johnson recorded 14 points off the bench, with three rebounds and one assist.
Anika Fredrick added eight points in the victory with seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
Brooke Luitjens added three points with one rebound, one assist, and one block.
Sara Tvedt was the last starter in the lineup with two points, four rebounds, and one assist.
Zoe Hardwick was the last NSU player in the scoring column with eight points and one steal.
Kendall Kohler picked up two assists, one rebound, and one steal off the bench.
Joie Spier picked up two rebounds, one assist, and one block.
Tori Mekash tallied one assist and one block.
Wolves are back in action tomorrow afternoon at Minnesota Crookston for a conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. from Crookston, Minn.
