Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State women's basketball team could not complete a fourth quarter comeback against University of Mary Saturday afternoon. Wolves drop to 4-6 on the season and 2-3 in conference play.
Wolves took a five-point lead with 3:22 left in the first quarter off a basket from Fredrick. UMary went on a 13-2 run to end the quarter. University of Mary out-scored the Wolves 23-21 in the second quarter, as the Wolves trailed by eight heading into the intermission. NSU in the first half, shot 41.4 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from behind the arc, and recorded 17 rebounds.
Wolves were out-scored in the third quarter by a score of 19-22, as the Wolves were trailing by 11 heading into the fourth quarter. NSU brought the UMary lead to seven multiple times late in the fourth quarter but could not get any closer as the Wolves drop to the Marauders. NSU for the game shot 41.8 percent from the field, out-rebounded UMary 34-25, and force nine Marauder turnovers.
Leading the Wolves with her fourth double-double of the season tallying 14 points and 10 rebounds. Kusler also tallied five assists and two steals.
Anika Fredrick led the Wolves with 17 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
Lexi Wadsworth tallied 15 points, six rebounds, one assist, and one block.
Sara Tvedt was the last double figure scorer for the Wolves finishing with 12 points, four rebounds, one assist, and one block.
Brooke Luitjens was the last starter in the lineups for the Wolves finishing with four points, two assists, and two rebounds.
Zoe Hardwick led the Wolves off the bench with seven points, two rebounds, and one block.
Sarah Rozell and
Joie Spier each tallied one point. Rozell and Spier recorded one and two rebounds respectively.
Wolves return to action Wednesday as they travel to MSUM to match-up with the Dragons before Christmas break. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. against the Dragons.
