Wolves pick up three-point victory over Minot State Friday night

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State women's basketball team picked up a victory Friday night over Minot State by a final 57-54. With the win, the Wolves improve to 4-5 on the season and 2-2 in conference play.

 

In the first quarter, the Wolves got out to a 12-point lead and led by nine after one quarter of play. NSU out-scored the Beavers in the second quarter by a score of 14-10 and took a 13-point lead into the intermission. Wolves shot 50.0 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from behind the arc.

 

NSU jumped out to the biggest lead in the third quarter being up 15 with 2:34 left to go in the third quarter. Minot State went on an 8-2 run in the fourth quarter to bring the game within four with 3:22 left to go in the game. Kusler made three free-throws in the last minute to seal a three-point victory over Minot State.

 

Brianna Kusler led the Wolves with 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block. Anika Fredrick tallied 14 points and seven rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block. Sara Tvedt was the last player in double figures for the Wolves, finishing with 12 points, eight rebounds, one assist, and two steals.

 

Lexi Wadsworth tallied seven points, three rebounds, and one assist in the win. Brooke Luitjens was the last starter for NSU tallying six points, three rebounds, and one assist. Leading the bench in scoring tonight with three points. Tori Mekash and Joie Spier each tallied two rebounds and one assist. Zoe Hardwick picked up one rebound off the bench.

 

The Wolves are back in action tomorrow afternoon, as they host University of Mary at 4 p.m. from Wachs Arena.
