Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State soccer scored four goals in the victory over Wayne State 4-3. With the victory, the Wolves improve to 7-6-1 and 5-5-1 in conference play.
NSU scored the first goal of the match at the 6:28 off a corner kick when
Emily Reiten took a shot that was blocked by a defender, the defection found Reiten, and she kicked the ball into the back of the net to take an early 1-0 lead. Four minutes later Reiten picked up her second goal of the season off a shot by
Shianne Rosselli hit the crossbar and the rebound found its way to Reiten for her second goal of the match. Wayne State cut the lead to 2-1 at the 15:18 mark of the first half.
NSU picked up an own goal late in the first period to take 3-1 lead heading into the intermission. Within the first two minutes of the second half Wayne State scored a goal to cut the lead to 3-2. At the 49:48 mark of the match
Darian Leschewski was fouled in the penalty area.
Teya Trujillo took the penalty shot and scored her second goal of the season.
Wayne State scored a goal in the 84th minute of the match but fell short as the Wolves snapped their three game win streak. Northern State finished the match with seven shots on goal, eight corner kicks, and 15 shots. Estrada finished the game with two shots on goal, Trujillo tallied one shot on goal, Leschewski took one shot on goal, and Reiten picked up two shots on goal.
Jessica Otto picked up seven saves in the win.
NSU returns to the pitch next Friday afternoon when they hit the road to face Minnesota State Mankato. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. on October 19th against the Maverics.
