Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University wrestling team fell to No. 1 St. Cloud State 42-3 from Wachs Arena on Thursday evening. NSU dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-3 in the NSIC following the dual. The Wolves long victory came off the back of senior
Tanner Olson.
Olson defeated top ranked Larry Bomstad in a 3-1 sudden victory at 157 pounds. Bomstad entered the match, not only ranked No. 1 in the country but also undefeated with 20 wins this season. The two were scoreless through the first period, with Olson scoring first on an escape in the second. Bomstad added an escape of his own in the second, forcing the first overtime period. Olson had Bomstad's number throughout the battle notching a few close calls, but ultimately came away with the takedown and the win. The Wolves senior is now 3-3 on the year and 2-1 in league action.
The Wolves return to action next Friday and Saturday from Wachs Arena with a pair of NSIC duals against Upper Iowa and MSU Moorhead. Match start is scheduled for 7 p.m. each night.
