Holtan and Campbell Lead the Wolves from the UNK Midwest Duals

Kearney, Neb. – The Northern State University wrestling team fell to Chadron State, 31-18, No. 23 Lindenwood, 31-15, and No. 17 Western State, 40-9, from the UNK Midwest Duals. The Wolves move to 1-7 overall this season following the competitions.
 
Chadron State Dual
 
Jay Maxville opened the day for the Wolves with a 7-4 decision victory over Marcus Hutcherson, giving NSU the 3-0 lead. Northern fell at 133, 141, 149, and 157 pounds before a forfeit at 165. They trailed 26-3 with four weights to wrestle.
 
Kaden Campbell notched a 2-0 decision win over Heber Shepherd at 174 pounds. Riley Lura followed that with a 6-point win for the Wolves, pinning Devin Stork at 4:09 in the match. A forfeit at 197 pounds brought the Wolves within five of the Eagles heading into the final match of the dual. The Wolves were unable to secure a major or fall in the 285 pound match and fell 31-18.
 
#23 Lindenwood Dual
 
Billy Holtan notched the first win of the dual for the Wolves at 149 pounds. The redshirt freshman defeated Nate Trepanier in a 7-6 decision. Tanner Olson followed with a decision victory of his own, defeating Tim Bogar 12-6.
 
With the Wolves open at 165 pounds, Northern trailed 23-6 heading into the final four weights of the dual. David Murphy notched a big victory by fall at 4:58 in the match, defeating Sam Pennington. Diego Gallegos tallied the final win of the dual for Northern, defeating Jared McKindley in a 4-3 decision.
 
#17 Western State Dual
 
Holtan again notched the first win of the dual for the Wolves against the Mountaineers, defeating Justin Chenoweth in an 11-5 decision. Campbell notched his second win of the day, defeating Tyler Self by fall at 3:38 in the match.
 
Northern returns to action January 19th for an NSIC duals against Southwest Minnesota State. The dual is set to begin at 7 p.m. from Marshall.
