Aberdeen, S.D. – The No. 14 Northern State University volleyball team downed Minnesota State 3-0 in their Gypsy Days opener from Wachs Arena. With the win, the Wolves improve to 13-1 overall and 6-0 in league action.
The Wolves defeated the Mavericks with set scores of 25-13, 25-19, and 25-19. Northern hit .304 in the match, while holding Minnesota State to a .067 attack percentage on defense. The Wolves added 42 kills, 42 assists, 62 digs, eight blocks, and five aces. Defensively they forced 21 attack errors and held Minnesota State to just 29 kills.
Holly Vancura led the team with 13 kills and hit .286 in the match. Vancura added a team second best ten digs, as well as three blocks.
Jenna Reiff was second on the team with ten kills, while hitting a team leading .474.
Laura Snyder followed with seven kills, followed by
Morgan Baufield and
Regan Dennis with six kills each.
Ashley Rozell served up 39 assists, averaging 13.00 per set. The sophomore added seven digs, and a team second best three blocks. Reiff led the team at the net with five blocks, while Baufield and Snyder tallied two each.
Jaiden Langlie was a defensive star for the Wolves with a team leading 18 digs. Langlie averaged 6.00 per set, while adding one service ace.
Alyssa Deobler was second on the team with nine digs, followed by
Lexi Boesl with seven, and Baufield with six.
Northern returns to Wachs Arena tomorrow evening at 6 p.m., as they face the No. 2 Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears. Fans will be admitted to the volleyball game for free with their valid football game ticket.
