Fayette, Iowa – For the second straight match, the Northern State University volleyball team fell in the opening set, however stormed back to defeat Upper Iowa 3-1. The No. 19 Wolves downed the Peacocks with set scores of 23-25, 25-15, 25-16, and 25-16. NSU notches their 11
th straight victory, improving to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in NSIC play.
Northern tallied 65 kills in the match to the Peacocks 41. NSU added 79 digs, 62 assists, seven aces, and five blocks, while hitting .335 in the match. Defensively they held Upper Iowa to a .177 attack percentage with 15 errors.
Three Wolves tallied double figure kills, led by
Laura Snyder with a career high 20 on the afternoon. Snyder hit a team second best of .528, while adding two aces and three digs.
Jenna Reiff was second on the team with 16 kills, followed by
Holly Vancura with ten.
Morgan Baufield led the team with a .538 attack percentage, and added eight kills.
Regan Dennis notched eight kills of her own, while setter
Ashley Rozell tallied three.
Rozell was spot on for the Wolves with 58 total assists. The sophomore averaged a season high 14.5 assists per set, and added nine digs, two blocks, and two service aces.
Four Wolves tallied double figure digs, led by
Holly Vancura with a season high 24 digs. She was followed by
Alyssa Deobler with a season high of her own, notching 14 digs.
Jaiden Langlie and
Lexi Boesl rounded out the dig leaders for the Wolves with 11 and ten each.
Northern State returns home next weekend for a pair of Gypsy Days matches against Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. The Wolves will face off against the Mavericks at 6 p.m. on Friday, and the No. 2 Golden Bears at 6 p.m. on Saturday. For a full Gypsy Days schedule click
