Box Score Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University soccer team dropped their second NSIC contest of the season, 2-1, to St. Cloud State. With the loss, NSU falls to 3-3 overall and 2-2 NSIC play, while SCSU improves to 5-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference.
The Huskies scored first at the 6:22 mark in the first half, and added to the lead just seven minutes later. The two teams entered the locker room at the half, with the Wolves trailing the Huskies 2-0.
The Wolves responded early in the second half, cutting the St. Cloud State lead in half.
Alison Byrd dropped a long pass in as midfield, where
Shianne Rosselli and
Mallory Schoenhard awaited. Schoenhard broke free from the defenders, and Rosselli laid the ball to Schoenhard's feet, who lofted it over the SCSU keeper for the first goal of her career. Despite a few close shot on goal attempts by the Wolves, NSU was unable to produce another goal.
Schoenhard led the Wolves with one shot and one goal.
Stephany Estrada produced two shots and one shot on goal, while
Catherine Nakae and
Karli Harney combined for a total of five shots.
Justine Charles tallied three saves in 90 minutes of play, however suffered her third loss of the season. The Wolves were out shot by the Huskies 28 to 14, however NSU recorded five corner kicks.
The Wolves hit the road as they travel Minnesota Duluth for a 1 p.m. match-up on Sunday, Sept. 24.
