The Deng Foundation was founded by Northern State alumni William Deng in his fight against Malaria in South Sudan. It is the goal of the foundation to build a medical center in Tiitchok Mareng, a small village in South Sudan. Many people in South Sudan are dying from malaria due to the lack of medical care and continuation of poverty. There are no clinics or hospitals available in the villages, thus people are forced to travel to large cities despite the lack of public transportation. In the village of Tiitchok Mareng, individuals will walk up to seven hours to reach the closest clinic, and for some the journey is fatal. Just $20 can save a life, through early detection, treatment, and prevention. For more information visit the Deng Foundation online.
