No. 19 Mavericks Best Wolves in Midweek Doubleheader

Mankato, Minn. – The Northern State University baseball team dropped a pair of games Tuesday afternoon at No. 19 Minnesota State, falling 5-1 and 13-1. The Wolves drop to 16-20 overall and 9-15 in league action following the doubleheader.
 
The Wolves tallied one run in the top of the seventh, as Mikey Barreneche doubled in Ben Carolin however it was not enough to overcome the 5-run deficit heading into the final frame. Lucas Lorenz notched the other team hit for the Wolves.
 
NSU starter Sam Krapf suffered his fifth loss of the season, throwing six complete innings. Krapf gave up five runs, two of which were earned, on five hits with four strikeouts.
 
Minnesota State quickly took hold of game two, scoring 12 runs in the first three innings of play. Jack Schmidt tallied the lone run for the Wolves in the game, with a solo shot down the left field line. As a team the Wolves notched five hits, including singles by Barreneche and Tyler Gripentrog and a team leading two hits from Tyler Hair.
 
Phil Sauer suffered his first loss of the season as the Wolves starter. Sauer gave up five earned runs on two hits with three walks. Colton Landreth, Rylan Shimer, and Andrew Nichols entered in relief, with Nichols leading the team with four strikeouts.
 
The Wolves return to action this weekend from Fossum Field beginning at 4 p.m. Saturday versus Wayne State. The Wolves and Wildcats will also face-off beginning at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
