St. Cloud, Minn. – The Northern State University men's basketball team capped off the regular season with a 75-64 victory at St. Cloud State. Following the win, the Wolves improve to 21-7 overall and 17-5 in the NSIC.
The Wolves tallied 38 points in the first half, riding a 21 point lead. Northern recorded another 37 points in the second half, and was out-scored by St. Cloud State, however held on to the first half lead. The Wolves shot 50.9 percent from the floor in the win, notching 42 points in the paint, 26 points off the bench, 12 second chance points, and nine points off turnovers.
With the tenth point of the game, Northern State junior
DJ Pollard knocked down the 1,000
th point of his career. Pollard is the 51
st member of the Northern State 1,000 point club. The junior was one of five Wolves in double figures, scoring 11 points in the win.
Mack Arvidson led the team with 13 points, bringing him within eight of the same career milestone.
Carter Evans was the Wolves leader off the bench for the second straight night, notching a team second best 12 points. The junior also added a team leading four assists, and team second best seven rebounds while shooting 6-of-8 from the floor.
Jonny Dahl and
Justin Decker rounded out the double-digit scorers with ten points each. Dahl led the team with eight rebounds and three steals in 27 minutes of action.
A total of eight Wolves notched multiple rebounds in the game, as NSU out-rebounded SCSU 46-30 in the game. Northern also tallied 15 assists, with four players tallying multiple in the game, including Pollard with three, and Arvidson and
Gabe King with two each.
Logan Doyle and
Gabe King notched nine and six points respectively in the starting lineup, while
Bo Fries added four points off the bench.
The Wolves will open the NSIC Tournament at home from Wachs Arena. Northern will face ? at 8 p.m. on Wednesday February 22
nd following the women's game.
