Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University wrestling team will head to Spearfish for their first duals of the season this Sunday in the annual South Dakota Showdown. Northern will face off against South Dakota State, Dakota Wesleyan, and Augustana. The Wolves will face the Vikings at 12 p.m., the Jackrabbits at 1:30 p.m., and the Tigers at 3 p.m. from Spearfish High School.
The Wolves hit the road after three open tournaments to kick off the 2017-18 season.
Blake Perryman and
Kenny Jones won the Jimmie Invite in the respective weight classes in the first open of the season. Perryman went on to place second from the DWU Open, while Jones finished sixth. They pair are currently ranked with Jones sitting seventh at 133 pounds and Perryman sitting fifth at 165 pounds.
Riley Lura tallied a four place finish from the Finn Grinaker Open, in his first collegiate competition for the Wolves.
A Season Ago
- The Wolves went 1-2 from the SD Showdown a season ago defeating Dakota Wesleyan 36-15 and falling to SDSU (28-8) and Augustana (19-18).
- Perryman went 3-0 on the day with two decision victories and a win by fall at 0:59
- Northern tallied four straight wins through the middle weights against the Vikings, however suffered a forfeit at 197 pounds and losses at 184 and 285 pounds
- NSU won seven of the ten matches against the Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan
