Aberdeen, S.D. – After rattling off two set victories to open the match, the No. 7 Northern State University volleyball team was unable to close out the win falling to No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul. With the loss the Wolves fall to 21-4 overall and 14-3 in the NSIC.
Northern won the first two sets 25-23 and 25-21, before falling in the final three sets 28-26, 25-21, and 15-13. The Wolves out-hit the Golden Bears .270-to-.241, with both teams notching 75 kills. Northern added 73 assists, nine blocks, and six aces, while leading the match with 104 total digs.
Hailey Busch led the team with 21 kills, hitting .308 in the match. The junior added 16 digs and three blocks for the Wolves.
Holly Vancura was second on the team with 19 kills and 19 digs. Laura Snyder and
Jenna Reiff rounded out the players with double figure kills, nothing 14 and 13 respectively. The duo each hit above .300 with Snyder hitting .314 and Reiff hitting .310. Morgan Baufield led the Wolves with a .357 attack percentage, notching six kills.
Ashley Rozell paced the Northern State offense averaging 12.0 assists per set, with 60 total in the match. The Wolves setter added two kills, two aces, four blocks, and a team second best 20 digs. Leading the defensive effort was sophomore
Jaiden Langlie with 26 digs. She averaged 5.20 per set, while adding three assists. Baufield also led the team at the net with five blocks, followed by Rozell and Reiff with four each.
Northern State returns to action tomorrow after at Minnesota State. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. between the Wolves and Mavericks.
