Aberdeen, S.D. – The No. 7 Northern State University defeat MSU Moorhead 3-0 from Wachs Arena in the 2017 Halloween match-up. The Wolves improve to 21-3 overall and 14-2 in the NSIC, downing the Dragons with set scores of 25-22, 25-23, 25-10.
The Wolves hit .348 in the match, and held the Dragons on defense hitting .149. Northern tallied 53 kills, 52 assists, 55 digs, six blocks, and three aces in the win. They hit a match high .433 in the third set with 16 total kills. Northern held MSU Moorhead to a -.107 hitting percentage in the fourth set, forcing seven total errors. The Wolves went on a 22-7 run to open the third set, before the Dragons were able to score two consecutive points.
Hailey Busch and Laura Snyder led the Northern State offense with 15 and 13 kills respectively. Morgan Baufield and
Jenna Reiff followed with eight kills each from the middle, while
Holly Vancura added seven kills on the outside. Baufield was perfect on the evening with 14 total swings and no errors, hitting a team leading .571. Snyder was second on the team hitting .417, while Busch hit .333 in the win.
Ashley Rozell was on fire, posting 46 total assists. The sophomore averaged 15.33 per set, while adding two kills, two aces, and seven digs. Snyder notched three assists of her own, as well as three digs. Vancura and
Jaiden Langlie led the Wolves defense with 17 digs each, averaging 5.67 per set. Baufield and Reiff led the team at the net with three blocks each, while Snyder tallied two.
Northern hits the road this weekend for two matches against No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday versus the Golden Bears, and 3 p.m. on Saturday against the Mavericks.
