Aberdeen, S.D. – After falling in the first two sets, the No. 9 Northern State University volleyball team stormed back for a 3-2 victory over No. 21 Wayne State. With the win, the Wolves improve to 16-2 overall, and 9-1 in the NSIC.
Northern dropped the first two sets with scores of 25-16 and 25-21, before rattling off three victories with scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 15-12. The Wolves tallied 65 kills, 63 assists, 91 digs, eight blocks, and five aces, while hitting .229. Defensively they held the Wildcats to a .209 hitting percentage, and tallied 13 more digs. The win marks the Wolves fourth over a top-25 opponent this season, and sixth over teams ranked or receiving votes.
Hailey Busch led the team with 22 kills notching her fourth straight match with double figure kills. The junior also hit a team leading .305, while adding 15 digs, four blocks, and one ace.
Jenna Reiff was second on the team with 16 kills, and was a monster at the net leading the team with seven blocks.
Holly Vancura and
Laura Snyder followed with ten kills each.
Morgan Baufield and
Ashley Rozell rounded out the team total with five and two kills respectively.
Rozell dished out 59 assists, while adding ten digs, three blocks, and two aces.
Jaiden Langlie led the defense with 22 digs, followed closely by Vancura with 19.
Lexi Boesl also notched a double figure night, with 13 digs in the win.
Northern returns to action tomorrow for a 5 p.m. match-up with No. 18 Augustana in Sioux Falls.
