Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Northern State University men's basketball fell to Augustana 80-66 in NSIC action Saturday, as the Wolves struggled from the floor. Northern drops to 12-6 overall and 8-4 in league action after the loss.
It was a messy game through the first half of play, with a combined 18 turnovers between the two team's and a 33-31 score at the half. The Vikings however cleaned things up in the second, giving up just five turnovers to the Wolves eight in the final 20 minutes of action. The Wolves shot a season low 34.4 percent from the floor and 28.0 percent from the arc in the loss.
With
Ian Smith out due to an injury,
DJ Pollard stepped into the point guard role and led the team with 18 points. He also added five rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
Mack Arvidson was the only other player in double figures with ten points, after being guarded heavily throughout the game.
Bo Fries followed with nine points, while starters
Gabe King and
Logan Doyle each notched seven.
Carter Evans and
Justin Decker tallied eight and seven points off the bench for the Wolves, while Evans led the team with nine rebounds. Doyle was second on the boards with eight, while King and Pollard tallied six and five. The Wolves bested the Vikings on the boards with 38 to their 36 in the game.
As a team, Northern tallied 22 points in the paint, 15 points off the bench, ten points off turnovers, and seen second chance points. The Vikings on the other hand tallied 40 points in the paint, 23 points off turnovers, 18 points off the bench, and 12 second chance points.
The Wolves will return home next weekend with a pair of North Division opponents. NSU will welcome St. Cloud State for an 8 p.m. match-up on Friday and Minnesota Duluth for a 6 p.m. match-up on Saturday.
