Marshall, Minn. – The Northern State University volleyball team fell to No. 4 Southwest Minnesota State on Friday 3-0. The Wolves drop to 11-3 overall and 4-2 in league action with the loss.
The Wolves fell with set scores of 25-12, 27-25, and 25-20. The Mustangs hit .307 in the match with 50 kills, while NSU hit .184 with 33 kills. The Wolves were unable to come out on top statistically as the Mustangs tallied more points, kills, aces, blocks, assists, and digs.
Northern battled back in the second and third sets, however the Wolves were unable to capture the lead in the match.
Kellie Schmit led the team with nine kills and hit a third best .250 in the match.
Holly Vancura and
Lauren McCafferty followed with seven kills apiece, while
Tori Biach notched another six kills and hit a team leading .364.
Jenna Reiff rounded out the team total with four in the match.
Ashley Rozell notched 28 assists in the loss and added six digs on defense.
Jaiden Langlie led the defensive effort for NSU with 12 digs of her own, while Vancura notched another nine. McCafferty notched seven digs, while
Annika van Oosbree and
Amanda Tobin rounded out the team total with three apiece.
The Wolves return to action tomorrow versus Sioux Falls at 2 p.m. on the road.
