Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University volleyball team continued solid NSIC play on Tuesday night with a clean sweep of MSU Moorhead. The No. 11 Wolves improved to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in league play, defeating the Dragons 25-23, 25-17, and 25-18.
The Wolves combined for 48 kills and hit .319 as a team in the victory. They added 54 digs, seven blocks, and five service aces for a total of 60 points. NSU suffered just one attack error in the first set, hitting .326, while hitting a match high .351 in the third and final set.
Senior
Lauren McCafferty led the team with 14 kills and hit a team second best .444 in the win.
Jenna Reiff was the final Wolf in double-digits with ten kills, followed by
Kellie Schmit and
Holly Vancura with eight each.
Tori Biach led the Wolves hitting .500 in the match with seven kills and no attack errors. The NSU hitters were paced by
Ashley Rozell with 44 assists, averaging 14.67 per set.
Rozell also added a team leading 14 digs on defense.
Annika van Oosbree was second on the Wolves defense with 12 digs, and added three assists.
Lauren McCafferty and
Jaiden Langlie each notched seven digs of their own, while
Amanda Tobin added another six. Schmit and Rozell led the Northern blockers with four and three blocks respectively in the win, while Vancura, Reiff and Biach nabbed two each.
Northern held the Dragons to a .175 attack percentage with 42 kills and 20 errors in 126 attempts. MSUM also struggled on serve receive with five errors as a team.
The Wolves return to Wachs Arena this weekend for a pair of top-25 match-ups. Northern will open the weekend on Friday versus No. 14 Augustana at 7 p.m., and return Saturday for a 6 p.m. match with No. 4 Wayne State.
