Aberdeen, S.D. – The No. 11 Northern State University volleyball team suffered their first NSIC loss of the season Friday night to No. 14 Augustana University. The Wolves drop to 10-2 overall and 3-1 in league action, while the Vikings ride a three game win streak against ranked opponents.
The Wolves quickly fell behind in the first two sets, falling 25-21 and 27-25, however came out on fire in the third set to defeat the Vikings 25-13. Northern held the lead throughout the fourth set, but things slipped away as Augie tallied four straight scores to take the set and the match.
Freshman
Jenna Reiff led the team with a career high 20 kills, and hit .372. Reiff added four digs and three blocks, scoring 21.5 points for the team.
Holly Vancura and
Lauren McCafferty also notched double-digit kills with 13 and 12 respectively in the game.
Kellie Schmit,
Tori Biach, and
Ashley Rozell rounded out the team total of 59 with seven, five, and two apiece.
Northern out-hit the Vikings tallying 59 kills to their 57, and hitting .194 to their .174 mark on the night. The Wolves also notched 97 digs, to the Vikings 86, however AU tallied ten team blocks to the Wolves six.
Ashley Rozell added another 53 assists to her season total, along with a team third best 11 digs. Leading the NSU defense was Vancura with a career high 29 digs. The junior averaged 7.25 digs per set for the Wolves.
Jaiden Langlie also recorded a career high with 18 digs, and added three assists.
Tori Biach was the final Wolf in double-digits with ten digs, and three blocks.
The Wolves return to Wachs Arena tomorrow night in a 6 p.m. match-up against No. 4 Wayne State. All fans will be admitted free to the volleyball match with their football ticket stub.
