Box Score Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University soccer team picked up their fourth straight victory of the season, defeating the University of Sioux Falls in a close 1-0 match this afternoon. With the win, NSU improves to 4-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the NSIC, while USF falls to 0-4-1 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.

In the first 45 minutes of action, Sioux Falls put pressure on the Wolves by maintaining possession of the ball for the majority of the half. The Cougars outshot Northern State 10-5 in their efforts, however, both teams came up empty handed.

Locked in at 0-0 in the second period, the two teams played aggressively back and forth. The Wolves started to find open shots offensively, nabbing 18 total with four on target. In the 71^st minute of play, USF fouled the Wolves 20 feet from the right corner of the box, allowing NSU to set up for the game-winning goal. Anna Bondy connected with junior Sydney Shintaffer near the net at 72:54. Shintaffer struck the ball past goalkeeper, Morgan Perkins, for the first goal of the match.

With the 1-0 lead, the Wolves were forced to fend off the Cougars for the remaining 17 minutes of the match. USF forced two corner kicks, however, were unable to find the net to tie the game, giving Northern State the one goal victory.

NSU went on to outshoot Sioux Falls 23-17, with five shots on target. The Wolves ended with nine corner kicks to USF's four total.

Sydney Shintaffer led the Northern State offense with three shots and one goal. Anna Bondy and Darian Leschewski were each a threat with five and four shots respectively. Allison Byrd also notched three total shots and with two on pace for goal.

The Wolves will return to Jerde Field tomorrow at 1 p.m. to take on the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs.
