Volleyball Earns 3-1 Victory Against Beavers

Minot, N.D. – In their first NSIC road contest of the season, the Northern State University volleyball team defeated Minot State 3-1. The Wolves fell in the first set (25-21), however bounced back for three straight set victories to take the match (25-17, 25-9, 25-15). With the win, NSU improves to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the NSIC.
 
The Wolves tallied four players hitting above .300 in the game, as they hit .289 as a unit. Lauren McCafferty led the team hitting .400, followed by Tori Biach and Jenna Reiff hitting .353 and .350 respectively. McCafferty also led the team with 14 kills, followed by Holly Vancura with 12 of her own. Reiff and Biach added to the team total of 49 with nine and eight each, while Kellie Schmit knocked down another five.
 
Defensively the Wolves held the Beavers to a .104 attack percentage and 39 kills. Minot was held under .200 through the game with a match low -0.037 in the third set. Amanda Tobin led the NSU defense with a season high 12 digs. Annika van Oosbree was close behind with 11 in the win. Ashley Rozell, Biach and Jaiden Langlie each notched six digs, while Vancura added another seven. McCafferty and Reiff rounded out the team total with four and two each.
 
Rozell served up 46 assists to the NSU offense as the Wolves hit a match high .458 in the third set. Rozell also one kill and five service aces, which led the team. Northern combined for 12 service aces, as well as 12.5 team blocks. Schmit led the team with seven blocks, while both Biach and Reiff notched five each.
 
Northern will return home for a three game series versus MSU Moorhead, No. 20 Augustana, and No. 2 Wayne State. The Wolves will open the week with a Tuesday match-up against the Dragons at 7 p.m., followed by weekend matches at 7 p.m. and 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday, versus the Vikings and Wildcats. Tuesday's game will be the annual dig pink game, sponsored by Sanford.
