Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University baseball team will open a 6-game home stand tomorrow afternoon from Fossum Field. The Wolves are set to match-up with Bemidji State in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Northern will then return to Fossum for a pair of doubleheaders with Augustana on Saturday and Sunday. Game times for the weekend contest are still to be determined as Presentation College is also schedule to play at Fossum Field this weekend.
The Northern State University baseball team went 2-2 against Upper Iowa on the road this past Sunday and Monday. The Wolves move to fifth overall in the league with an 11-7 record overall and 4-2 mark in NSIC play. NSU tallied 46 hits in the 4-game set versus the Peacocks, led by senior
Matt Stubbs going 7-for-14 at the plate.
Colton Boucher and
Nick Hoffard earned wins for Northern throwing 6.1 and 5.2 innings respectively. Senior
Dillon Lee and redshirt freshman
Luke Chevalier each tallied a save for the Wolves as well. Northern struggled on defense giving up 13 errors total, and will look to clean things up as they return home for a 6-game stand.
Jack Schmidt and
Matt Stubbs are leading six NSU hitters above .300 with .521 and .468 season averages. Schmidt is leading the team with 38 hits, seven doubles, and 28 runs scored, while Stubbs has knocked in a team leading 25 RBI with a .805 slugging percentage.
Lucas Lorenz has hit a team leading seven balls out of the park, as Northern as combined for 24 homeruns this season. As a team the Wolves are hitting .352 with 228 hits, 163 runs scored, 142 RBI, 40 doubles, and ten triples.
Colton Boucher leads the NSU pitching staff with four wins in 2016. The seniors has thrown a team leading 31.2 innings with 33 strikeouts and a 3.69 season ERA.
Luke Chevalier leads the NSU relievers with a 1.23 ERA after earning his first career save over the weekend.
