Wrestling Enters Final Week of Home Competition

Aberdeen, S.D. – Northern State University wrestling returns to Wachs Arena tomorrow in their final home stand of the 2015-16 season. The Wolves play host to No. 15 Minnesota State beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday. NSU will then round out the regular home season on Saturday versus Dickinson State.
 
The Wolves return home looking for their first NSIC victory of the season. Tyler Stenberg and Joe Gomez continue to lead the Wolves this season with 3-1 and 4-1 records in league action. Gomez is ranked No. 7 at 197 pounds and boast a season record of 19-3. Matt Bettencourt and Blake Perryman battled to victories in the Wolves weekend dual versus Chadron State. Just four regular season duals remain for NSU this season with the NCAA Super Regionals just around the corner, February 27 and 28 from Sioux Falls.
 
About Minnesota State
- The Mavericks enter the dual after two tough loss to Upper Iowa and St. Cloud State
- MSU is 8-4 in duals this season, and 4-2 in league action
- Matt Mincey is ranked No. 2 in the nation at 157 pounds, while Adam Cooling and Scott VanDeLoo at ranked No. 8 at 174 and 184 pounds respectively
- The Mavericks also tallied four wrestlers in the top three in the NSIC in No. 1 Alphonso Vruno (141), No. 1 Matt Mincey (157), No. 2 Adam Cooling (174), and No. 2 Scott VanDeLoo (184).
- Minnesota State is led by head coach Jim Makovsky in his 22nd season with the program
 
About Dickinson State
- Prior to matching up with the Wolves the Blue Hawks will face off against NSIC opponent Minot State, Wednesday evening
- Dickinson State is 2-2 this season in duals and will open their post season tournament a week from Saturday
- DSU tallied five top-5 finishers a weekend ago from the Briar Cliff Open. Taylor Hodel took first at 165 pounds, Seth Ehlang took second at 149 pounds, Deshun Haynes took second at 125 pounds, Trevor Conrad took third at 285 pounds, and Jonathan Solano took third at 184 pounds.
- The Blue Hawks are led by head coach Justin Schlecht in his first season with the program.
