Bemidji, Minn. – In their first road game of the weekend, the Northern State women's basketball team defeated Bemidji State 81-72. With the victory, the Wolves improve to 7-1 and 3-1 in the NSIC, while the Beavers fall to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in league play.
NSU took the early lead in quarter one, ending the first ten minutes of action with 28 offensive points to BSU's 15 total. The Wolves gained their largest lead of the contest at the 16 minute mark, with a 23 point lead, however the Beavers closed out the half trailing just 44-37.
The two teams battled in the second half, locked in at 72-69 with two minutes left on the clock.
Miranda Ristau went on a 6-0 run for NSU to increase the scoring gap, and the Wolves went on to win by nine. As a team, the Wolves shot 44.1 percent from the floor, 41.7 percent from three point range and 80.0 percent from the foul line. NSU recorded five points off the bench, 14 points off turnovers and nine second chance points, outrebounding the Beavers 45-30.
Miranda Ristau recorded a career-high night with 27 points and 10 rebounds. From the floor, Ristau shot 65.0 percent with two assists.
Paige Waytashek followed up with 17 points and a team-high three assists. Both
Jill Conrad and
Gabby Laimer also scored in double-digits, tallying 14 and 13 points respectively.
The Wolves will continue action tomorrow against the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles. Tip-off will begin at 4 p.m., with the men's game to follow at 6 p.m.
