Box Score Crookston, Minn. – The Northern State women's basketball team picked up a weekend sweep tonight after a 78-65 victory over Minnesota Crookston. With the win, the Wolves improve to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the NISC, while the Golden Eagles drop to 0-8 and 0-4 in conference play.
The two teams closed out the first quarter with a score of 21-16 in favor of NSU. Minnesota Crookston held the lead for two minutes in quarter one, however Northern State went onto increase the scoring margin for the remainder of the contest. The Wolves gained their largest lead of 19 with 8:04 left on the clock, and went on to seal the 13 point victory in the final minutes.
As a unit, NSU shot 50.0 percent from the floor, 37.5 percent from three-point range and 60.0 percent from the foul line. The Wolves combined for 16 assists, 12 second chance points, 19 points off the bench, four blocks and five steals. Northern State finished the night with 44 rebounds to UMC's 34 total.
Senior
Paige Waytashek led the team with a season-high 22 points, making 8-of-12 from field goal range and 2-of-3 from the arc.
Miranda Ristau and
Jill Conrad each followed up in double-digit scoring also. Ristau nabbed 19 points, five rebounds and two blocks, while Conrad recorded 18 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Bethany Crosswait hit the boards for seven rebounds and tallied six assists to aid the Wolves. Sophomore
Anika Fredrick notched a career-high eight points, shooting 75.0 percent from the floor.
Northern State will continue action on the road next Saturday, December 17
th against MSU Moorhead. The Wolves and the Dragons will tip-off at 6 p.m., with the men's basketball game to follow.
