Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University wrestling team is set to open the 2016-17 home season tomorrow from Wachs Arena with a 7 p.m. dual versus No. 7 in NCAA Division III Concordia College, Moorhead.
The Wolves enter the dual after going 1-2 a weekend ago from the SD Showcase in Sioux Falls. Three Wolves tallied wins versus the Jackrabbits, as Northern had fewer points scored on them as a team then a season ago against the strong division I team. Had it not been for a necessary forfeit at 197 pounds, the Wolves would have pulled out a victory over Augustana as they fell 19-18 in the match. NSU tallied seven match victories versus the Tigers, including two wins by fall.
Blake Perryman was the only wrestler to go a perfect 3-0 on the day with two decision victories and a win by fall.
Sean Havlovic notched two wins versus the Vikings and the Tigers in a major decision and fall. Perryman and Havlovic lead the team with records of 12-3 and 11-3 this season.
D2wrestle.com released earlier this week their first regional rankings of the regular season. The Wolves were slated seventh as a team with four earning individual rankings in No. 2
Tyler Stenberg at 149 pounds, No. 4
Blake Perryman at 157 pounds, No. 2
Sean Havlovic at 165 pounds, and No. 1
Joe Gomez at 197 pounds.
