Aberdeen, S.D. – In their fifth one basket game of the season, the Northern State University men's basketball team fell to the University of Mary 77-75 from Wachs Arena. The Wolves drop to 5-4 overall and 1-2 in league action.
Northern led 39-36 at the half, however gave up 41 points to their 36 in the second. The Marauders out-shot the Wolves from the floor 51.8 to 47.4, however Northern took the crown shooting 50.0 percent from the arc and 85.7 percent from the foul line. The Wolves gave up 14 points off 12 turnovers, which potentially made the difference in the game, as they notched 32 points in the paint, 12 points off the bench, and ten points off nine offensive boards. The Wolves also out-rebounded the Marauders 36-26 in the loss.
Mack Arvidson led the team in scoring with 18 points, knocking down 6-of-9 3-pointers. He also added four rebounds for a team third best.
Ian Smith followed close behind with 15 points and a team leading nine rebounds and five assists.
Justin Decker and
DJ Pollard rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points each.
Carter Evans added eight points, followed by
Logan Doyle with seven. Evans and Doyle were second and third on the team in boards with six and four apiece.
Brayden McNeary and
Gabe King tallied the final scores for the Wolves with three and two respectively. McNeary, Pollard, and Arvidson were second on the team with two assists each. Pollard again led the team with two blocks.
Northern returns to action next Friday and Saturday for a pair of road games versus Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. NSU will tip-off at 8 p.m. versus the Beavers on Friday, and 6 p.m. against the Golden Eagles on Saturday.
