Doyle Career High Fuels Wolves in 91-87 Victory over Minot State

Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University men's basketball team pulled out their first NSIC victory of the season on Friday versus Minot State in a 91-87 victory. The Wolves improved to 5-3 on the year 1-1 in league action with the win.
 
The Wolves held an 11 point lead at the half, however Minot State stormed back with 49 points in the second to the Wolves 42. Northern tallied 20 of their 34 free-throws in the second half making the difference in the game, as the Beavers tallied seven more made field goals in the final 20 minutes.
 
Logan Doyle led the team with a career high 23 points, shooting 3-of-8 from the floor and 17-of-20 from the foul line. Doyle also added a team second best six rebounds. DJ Pollard was second on the team in scoring with 17 points, however led the team at the rim with a career high 13 rebounds and his first double-double of the season. Mack Arvidson and Ian Smith were the final Wolves in double-digits with 16 and 11 points respectively.
 
Arvidson led the team with a season high five assists, followed by Bo Fries with three, and Smith and Carter Evans with two. Evans and Fries each added two team points, alongside Gabe King. Brayden McNeary and Braxton Elliott were the final point scorers in the win with six and three points each.
 
As a team, the Wolves shot 49.0 percent from the floor, 45.0 percent from the arc, and 82.9 percent from the foul line. They out-shot Minot State from both the foul line and the arc and also tallied a game leading 36 points off the bench, in large part to Doyle. Northern added 15 points off nine Beaver turnovers and 17 points off 12 offensive boards. They rounded out the team totals with 22 points in the paint and a fast break lay-up.
 
Northern returns to action tomorrow versus the University of Mary at 6 p.m. from Wachs Arena. The men will be signing autographs following the game.
