Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University volleyball team fell to Sioux Falls 3-1 in NSIC action on Saturday night. The Wolves drop to 16-10 overall and 9-9 in the league, however hold the eighth spot in the league standings.
Northern opened the match with a 25-16 defeat of the Cougars, but struggled the keep the winning ways going as they fell 25-17, 25-21, and 25-23 in the final three sets. The Wolves hit .212 as a team with 48 kills, 46 assists, 69 digs, nine blocks, and two service aces. The two teams went back and forth in the first, second, and fourth sets with a combined 12 tie scores and seven lead changes.
Jenna Reiff led four hitters in double digits with 15 kills, while hitting .300 with just three errors.
Holly Vancura,
Kellie Schmit, and
Lauren McCafferty each notched ten kills, while Schmit hit a team leading .421.
Tori Biach added two kills, while
Lexi Lockhart rounded out the team total with one.
Ashley Rozell notched 44 assists in the game, averaging 11 per set. She also tallied double digit digs with ten in the match.
Jaiden Langlie led the defense with 16 digs, followed closely by Vancura with 14 and
Alyssa Deobler with 11. Schmit was on fire at the net with a team leading seven blocks, followed by Vancura and McCafferty with four and three respectively.
The Wolves will conclude the NSIC regular season next Friday and Saturday against No. 7 Augustana and No. 8 Wayne State. The Wolves face the Vikings at 7 p.m. Friday and the Wildcats at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Northern will fight for an NSIC Tournament berth as the regular season wraps up around the league.
