Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Northern State University volleyball team dropped a hard fought, 5-set match to No. 7 Augustana University on Friday evening. The No. 20 Wolves move to 16-11 overall and 9-10 in league action after falling 3-2 on the road. NSU is currently tied with Minnesota State for the eight place standing in the NSIC.
The Wolves won the second and third sets 25-10 and 25-19, however fell in the first, fourth, and fifth sets 27-25, 25-20, and 15-8. Northern hit a match leading .296 with 74 kills, 71 assists, 94 digs, seven service aces, and two blocks, while Augustana hit .271 with 68 kills, 66 assists, 73 digs, three service aces, and ten blocks.
Holly Vancura led the Wolves with 24 kills and hit .357 with just four errors in the match. She also tallied ten digs, two assists, and one service ace.
Jenna Reiff was second on the team with 15 kills and 18 digs, while hitting .220.
Tori Biach,
Lauren McCafferty, and
Kellie Schmit each notched 11 kills in the match, while Biach leading the team hitting .455.
Ashley Rozell paced the team with two hitters above .300 recording 65 assists and averaging 13 assists per set. Rozell also added one kill, one block, one ace, and 13 digs.
Jaiden Langlie led the Wolves on defense with 27 digs, averaging 5.4 per set, while
Alyssa Deobler followed with a team third best 16 digs. Schmit led the team at the net and was the only Wolf to tally multiple blocks with two.
The Wolves will return to action in the regular season finale versus No. 8 Wayne State. First serve is set for 2 p.m. between the Wolves and the Wildcats.
