Wolves Battle Back in Overtime Victory against Black Hills

Spearfish, S.D. – The Northern State University men's basketball team rode a seven point overtime period, Saturday evening to defeat Black Hills State 82-76. The Wolves improved to 3-2 on the year, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-3.
 
Northern led 34-30 at the half, however gave up 45 points in the second as the Yellow Jackets tied things up forcing the overtime period. Defensively the Wolves held Black Hills to just one point in OT. The Wolves opened the game with 12-0 run and led as much as 15 through the first period.
 
NSU shot 44.6 percent from the floor, 37.5 percent from the arc, and 67.6 percent from the foul line. Defensively, the Wolves held Black Hills to a 35.2 field goal percentage and 33.3 3-point percentage. Northern tallied 26 points in the paint, 35 points off the bench, 14 second chance points, and 27 points off 19 BHSU turnovers.
 
Mack Arvidson led the team with 23 points, followed by Logan Doyle and Gabe King with 18 and 12 respectively. Doyle notched a team leading 18 rebounds as well in his first double-double of the season. King's 12 points was a career high for the freshman as he shot 4-of-9 from the field. Arvidson notched a team leading five made 3-point baskets and added two steals.
 
DJ Pollard notched nine points, followed by Ian Smith, Justin Decker, and Carter Evans with six, five, and four respectively. Braxton Elliott and Brayden McNeary rounded out the team total with three and two points each. Evans was second on the team with eight rebounds, while Smith led the team with four assists.
 
The Wolves return to action on Tuesday from Wachs Arena at 7 p.m. versus Mayville State. Northern will then open conference play on Saturday the 26th versus MSU Moorhead.
