Aberdeen, S.D. – In their final non-conference game of the regular season, the Northern State University men's basketball blew past Mayville State 81-59. The Wolves improve to 4-2 on the year heading into the NSIC opener on Saturday.
The Wolves shot 51.8 percent from the floor, 54.5 percent from the arc, and 61.1 percent from the foul line in the victory, while holding the Comets to a 40.4 field goal percentage from the floor. Northern tallied 26 points in the paint and 11 points off turnovers in the win, while giving up just nine turnovers of their own.
Mack Arvidson led the team with 21 points, hitting 5-of-9 three pointers for all of his points from the field. The senior added six points from the free-throw line and notched one rebound and two assists.
Ian Smith and
Carter Evans followed with 12 and 11 points respectively, while Evans notched his first double0double of the season leading the team with ten rebounds.
DJ Pollard and
Braxton Elliott rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Wolves with ten points apiece, with Elliott notching a career high in the game.
Logan Doyle matched Evans mark from the rim with ten rebounds of his own, in addition to four points.
Justin Decker and
Brayden McNeary tallied the team's final scores with eight and five points each.
Pollard and McNeary dished out a team leading four assists, while Arvidson led the Wolves with two steals. A total of seven Wolves notched multiple assists in the game, as Northern tallied 22 in total. The Wolves also out-rebounded the Comets 38-31 and blocked three shots on defense.
Northern will open the NSIC regular season on Saturday versus MSU Moorhead from Wachs Arena. The Wolves and Dragons will tip-off at 6 p.m. following the women's game.
