Wayne, Neb. – In the final game of the regular season, the Northern State University volleyball team fell to No. 8 Wayne State 3-1. The No. 20 Wolves drop to 16-12 overall and 9-11 in league action. With the loss, Northern falls to ninth in the league standings.
The Wolves fell in the first two sets 25-23 and 25-17, however bounced back to take the 25-23 set three victory. Northern was unable to keep the winning ways rolling, falling 25-23 in the fourth and final set. The Wolves hit .212 with 59 kills, 59 assists, 84 digs, eight service aces, and three blocks. Wayne State hit .293 with 59 kills, 54 assists, 68 digs, seven aces, and 12 blocks.
Holly Vancura led four hitters in double-digits with 17 kills in the game, while hitting .226. She was followed by
Jenna Reiff and
Kellie Schmit with 14 and 12 kills respectively. Schmit led the hitters with a .292 attack percentage, while
Lauren McCafferty rounded out the leaders with ten kills.
Tori Biach and
Ashley Rozell combined for the team's final six kills, with four and two respectively.
Rozell notched 55 assists, bringing her season total to 1,224 assists averaging 11.8 per set. Rozell was also one of four players with double-digit digs, notching 11. Reiff also tallied 11 digs, while Vancura recoded 17.
Jaiden Langlie led the team with 24 total, while
Alyssa Deobler notched nine.
Northern's three seniors,
Tori Biach,
Lauren McCafferty, and
Amanda Tobin exhausted their eligibility in the game concluding their Northern State careers.
