Winona, Minn. – The Northern State University soccer team completed a sweep this weekend, defeating Winona State 1-0 on the road. With the victory, the Wolves improve to 8-7-0 overall and 6-7-0 in conference play, while the Warriors drop to 7-8-1 overall and 4-8-1 in the NSIC.
The Wolves recorded the lone goal in the match after senior
Anna Bondy headed a rebounded shot from
Sammie Zgutowicz back into the net and around Winona State goalkeeper, Jourdan Valkner. NSU was able to maintain the one-goal lead for the remaining 64 minutes of action, picking up their eighth win of the season.
Senior goalkeeper,
Stacey Cavill recorded eight saves in her second-consecutive shutout. Cavill faced 29 shots on the weekend, nabbing 14 total saves in two complete games.
The Wolves were outshot by the Warriors 15-10 in the contest. As a unit, Northern State notched seven shots on goal, while Winona State finished with eight.
Anna Bondy led NSU offensive with two shots, both of which being on pace for goal. The senior's goal in the match marked her 15
th of the season.
Northern State will play their final home match of the 2016 season against the University of Mary. Kick off will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday from Jerde Field.
