Sioux Falls, S.D. – The Northern State University soccer team dropped their second overtime match of the weekend, falling to Augustana University 2-1. The Wolves are now 4-5-0 overall and 2-5-0 in conference action, while the Vikings improve to 6-3-1 overall and 5-1-1 in the NSIC.
After a scoreless first half, NSU was first to notch a goal in the match. In the 49
th minute of play,
Anna Bondy connected with freshman
Stephany Estrada inside the box. Estrada tapped the ball around Augustana goalkeeper, Taylor Machacek, to give the Wolves the 1-0 advantage.
Augustana evened the match in the 74
th minute when Rebecca Gasper headed the ball past
Stacey Cavill, forcing an overtime period.
Viking's forward, Julie Plomsky recorded the game-winning goal two minutes into the overtime period to give Augustana the 2-1 victory.
Northern State was outshot 30-18 in the match. Augustana tallied 15 shots on goal, while NSU finished with 12 total.
Stephany Estrada led the Wolves offense with three shots on goal in three shot attempts, nabbing the lone NSU goal.
Darian Leschewski added eight shots, five of which on track for goal. Senior
Anna Bondy recorded the one Northern State assist in the match.
Goalkeeper
Stacey Cavill allowed just two goals in the net, collecting 13 saves in her second overtime match of the weekend.
The Wolves will hit the road on Friday for a 3 p.m. match-up at Bemidji State, before returning home Sunday for a 1 p.m. match against Minnesota Crookston from Jerde Field.
