Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University women's soccer team fell to the second ranked team in the NSIC this afternoon in a 2-0 match. With the loss, the Wolves fall to 6-7-0 overall and 4-7-0 in league play, while the Mavericks improve to 10-3-1 overall and 9-2-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Minnesota State was first to notch a goal in the game as the team's lead scorer, Morgan Cottew, received a pass in the center of the box from Kiana Nickel. Cottew drilled the ball into the left corner of the net to put the Mavericks on top 1-0.
MSU added to their lead in the 61
st minute of play when Kiana Nickel was awarded a free kick from the top of the box. Nickel found the net for her seventh goal of the season, giving Minnesota State the two goal advantage.
The Northern State offense tallied five additional shots in the remaining minutes, however were unable to mount a comeback against the aggressive Mavericks.
The Wolves' defense held MSU to two goals in 20 shot attempts. Northern State recorded 11 shots with three on pace for goal, while the Mavericks proved accuracy with 12 shots on goal. Senior
Anna Bondy led the Wolves front line with two shots on goal and three total shots.

Stacey Cavill recorded 10 saves in 90 minutes on the pitch.
Northern State will hit the road next weekend to face Upper Iowa on October 22
nd and Winona State on October 23
rd. The Wolves will kick off against the Peacocks at 11 a.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
