St. Cloud, Minn. – The No. 13 Northern State University volleyball team bounced back Saturday, sweeping St. Cloud State 3-0 on the road. The Wolves improve to 13-5 overall and 6-4 in the NSIC, defeating the Huskies 25-13, 25-19, and 25-21.
NSU hit .358 as a team with 47 kills, hitting above .300 in each of the three sets. The Wolves also notched 45 digs, 45 assists, seven blocks, and five service aces. Defensively they held the Huskies to a .118 hitting percentage with 31 kills and 19 attack errors.
Holly Vancura led the Northern offense with 14 kills, followed by
Lauren McCafferty and
Kellie Schmit with 12 and ten respectively. Schmit and McCafferty sat atop the team hitting .529 and .444 in the match, while Vancura was the final Wolf above .300 with a .379 mark.
Jenna Reiff and
Tori Biach rounded out the team total with seven and four kills each in the win.
Ashley Rozell notched another solid night for the Wolves breaking the 800 assist mark with 43 total in the match. Rozell brought her season total to 807 assists, as she is averaging 12.0 per set. Vancura and Wolves libero
Jaiden Langlie led the Northern defense with 11 digs each in the match.
Annika van Oosbree followed with eight, while
Amanda Tobin and Reiff notched four each. Biach led the team at the net tallying six total blocks, followed by Vancura and Reiff with three each.
The Wolves will remain on the road for a Tuesday match-up with MSU Moorhead. First serve is set for 7 p.m. between the Wolves and Dragons. Northern will then return to Wachs Arena for a pair of NSIC contests versus Winona State and Upper Iowa next Friday and Saturday.
