Beavers and Marauders Come to Town this Weekend

Aberdeen, S.D. - The Northern State University men's basketball team returns home this weekend to take on Minot State and the University of Mary. The Wolves will tip-off with the Beavers Friday night at 8 p.m. from Wachs Arena, and will be back in action Saturday at 6 p.m. versus the Marauders. Saturday is deemed Military Appreciation, where also members of the military both past and present will be admitted from with any form of military identification. 

Northern State opened 2016 with a split on the road at Winona State and Upper Iowa. Skye Warwick scored his 1,000 career point versus Winona State, making him the 50th member of the NSU 1,000 point club. He also led the team with 19 points.  NSU is shooting 46.2% from the floor, 39.7% from 3-point range, and 70.5% from the free-throw line this season. Heading into the weekend, NSU head coach Paul Sather is only seven wins away from his 100th career victory at Northern State. Darin Peterka is leading the Wolves averaging 15.2 points and has tallied 40 assists this season. Carter Evans has been solid under the basket averaging a team leading 6.8 boards, and notching 9.7 points per game. Evans is also leading the team shooting 62.2% from field goal range. 

About the Beavers
    • Minot State enters the weekend on a three game win streak, with conference victories over Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. 
    • The Beavers sit in seventh in the NSIC North with a 7-7 record overall and 2-6 record in NSIC. 
    • Tyler Rudolph leads the team averaging 16.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
    • MSU is shooting 43.8% from the floor, 37.3% from 3-point range, and 73.4% from the free-throw as a unit this season. 
    • The Beavers are led by head coach Matt Murken in his fourth season with the program.

Last Match-Up
    • Northern defeated Minot State 87-80 on the road in early December. 
    • Carter Evans led the team with 17 points, while Darin Peterka, DJ Pollard, and Ian Smith each scored 16. 
    • The Wolves shot 54.3% from the floor and out-rebounded the Beavers 32-39.

About the Marauders
    • The Mary men are on a seven game win streak in both conference and non-conference play. A weekend ago they swept Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston.
    • Mary is currently second in the NSIC North behind nationally ranked MSU Moorhead. 
    • Bryan Jefferson is leading three Marauders in double-digit scoring this season, averaging 15.0 points per game. He is also pulling down 7.2 rebounds per game. 
    • The Marauders are shooting 50.6% from the floor, 38.7% from 3-point range, and 71.3% from the foul line this season.

Last Match-Up
    • The Wolves fell to the Marauders 60-58 on the road in early December. 
    • Darin Peterka was the only Wolf in double-digits with 13 points in the game. 
    • Both teams shot under 40.0% in the game, however the Marauders just edged out the Wolves. 
    • Northern was out-rebounded 39-31, and forced 16 turnovers.
