Wolves Collect Fifth Consecutive NSIC Victory Against UIU

Fayette, Iowa- The Northern State University women's basketball team extends their winning streak to five consecutive NSIC victories from Fayette this afternoon against the Upper Iowa Peacocks. In the 52-48 contest, NSU advances to 10-3 overall and 6-2 in the conference, while Upper Iowa falls to 3-11 overall and 2-6 in the Northern Sun Conference.

In the defensive battle, Northern State was held to under 60 points for just the third time this season. The two teams were locked in at 26-23, with NSU on top going into the half. The next two quarters were held to single-digit points for both teams. NSU and UIU were tied for the third time in the game at 34-34 with just over five minutes of play, however, sophomore Jill Conrad connected for three of the last four NSU buckets to secure the four point Wolves' victory.

Forward Jill Conrad was the only player on both benches to pick up double-digit points in the match-up, notching 19 total for Northern State. The sophomore went 8-14 from field goal range and 1-2 beyond the three-arch, while adding seven total rebounds off the boards. Northern State point guards Paige Waytashek and Gabby Laimer each sunk a pair of three pointers for six total points in the match.

For the ninth time this season, the Wolves outrebounded their opponents as they collected 40 to Upper Iowa's 35 total rebounds. NSU was able to collect 15 second chance points off of offensive rebounds. Alexis Tappe led the team with eight total rebounds, followed by sophomores Miranda Ristau and Jill Conrad with seven a piece.

Madi Meier of the Peacocks led the team with nine total points, followed by Whitney Kieffer with eight points and six rebounds.

Upper Iowa had the advantage from field goal range as they shot a team percentage of 31.3, while Northern State recorded a 27.6 field goal percentage. NSU created 14 turnovers in the match off of four blocks and four steals.

Northern State will head back home to Wachs Arena next weekend to take on Minot State at 6 p.m. on Friday and the University of Mary at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
