Aberdeen, S.D.- The Northern State women's basketball continues their mid-season success, picking up their sixth victory in a row by defeating Minot State 61-37 tonight from home. The Wolves expand their overall 2015-16 season record to 11-3 and now remain 7-2 in conference play, while Minot drops to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the NSIC.
Northern State picked up their largest margin of victory in conference action this season with a 24 point spread against the Beavers. NSU maintained the lead from the first score of the game, and held Minot State to single-digit scores in three of the four quarters of the match-up. Minot State outscored Northern 18-17 in the final period, however, it was not enough as the Wolves compiled a 46.3 field goal percentage and a season high 46.2 three-point percentage from 18 different players making appearances.
Jill Conrad and
Devon Brecke led the offensive attack for the Wolves with two three-pointers and 15 points on the night, followed by
Paige Waytashek with 13 total. Conrad also nabbed a team high 10 rebounds in the match-up.
Kari Clements and Savana Kingsbury led Minot State with eight and seven total points respectively.
Minot State averages 41.1 percent shooting from field goal range, but Northern State's aggressive defense held them to 24.5 percent from the floor in tonight's contest. The Wolves picked up 44 team rebounds and recorded a season high seven blocks and six steals in defending the Beavers. Senior
Lauren Deadrick had eight total rebounds and three blocks for NSU.
The Wolves return to Wachs Arena tomorrow night at 4 p.m. to face the University of Mary Marauders.
