Northern Men Fall to Upper Iowa

Fayette, Iowa – After an exciting victory a night ago, the Northern State University men's basketball team was unable to replicate the outcome. NSU fell to Upper Iowa University 89-81 in Sunday NSIC action. The Wolves drop to 7-7 overall and 3-5 in league action following the contest.
 
Darin Peterka led the team with 18 points and six rebounds. Also scoring in double-digits with DJ Pollard with 16, Skye Warwick with 15, and Carter Evans with 12. Evans matched Peterka with six rebounds in the game. Peterka also led the team with five assists. Warwick led NSU shooting 66.7 percent from the floor and knocked down four 3-point baskets.
 
As a unit the Wolves shot 45.8 percent from the floor and 34.8 percent from the arch. NSU out-shot UIU from the 3-point line, however was out-rebounded in the game 35-30. Northern forced 17 Peacock turnovers to lead the game, which resulted in 12 points for the Wolves. The Peacocks found more success with 22 points off 14 NSU turnovers.
 
Northern trailed Upper Iowa 33-29 heading into the second half of play. The Wolves fought back throughout the second half, however were unable to mount a comeback.
 
Ian Smith and Bo Fries added six points apiece, while Michael Schreiber notched four. Also scoring in the loss were Spencer Pankonin and Mack Arvidson with two points each. Northern tallied a game leading nine steals, including a team leading three from Pollard.
 
Up next for the Wolves is a pair of home matches versus Minot State and University of Mary next Friday and Saturday. Northern will face-off against the Beavers at 8 p.m. on Friday from Wachs Arena. The Wolves Saturday match-up with the Marauders is set for 6 p.m., and will feature free admission to all past and present military with a valid Military ID. The NSU men will also dawn camo uniforms for the military appreciation game.
