Crookston, Minn. – After a heartbreak the night before, the Northern State University men's basketball team came away with an 84-80 overtime victory at Minnesota Crookston. The Wolves improve to 12-8 overall and 8-6 in NSIC action after the win.
Carter Evans led the team for the second straight night with 22 points. He nearly notched a double-double with nine rebounds, while adding three blocks. Evans also shot 10-of-18 from the floor to lead the team.
Skye Warwick added 20 points in the victory, and seven assists.
The two teams battled throughout the game with a 33 tie heading into the final 20 minutes of play. Minnesota Crookston tied things up with just second to play in regulation, however the Wolves broke away in the first overtime period. Northern tallied 17 points, and held the Golden Eagles to just 13 as UMC resorted to the foul game in the final minute of play.
Mack Arvidson continued his solid play off the bench with 12 points.
Darin Peterka added eight points, while
DJ Pollard and
Ian Smith each knocked down seven. Pollard was second on the team with five rebounds and Peterka added a team second best four assists.
The Wolves were out-shot in the game 49.2 to 43.8 percent, however held the lead for over 32 minutes of play. Northern out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 39-to-34, and recorded 12 second chance points. Warwick sealed the game for NSU knocking down 3-of-4 free throws in the final seconds of play. The Wolves improved their percentage at the foul line from a night ago, shooting 80.0 percent in the win.
Northern will be back in action next weekend on the road at Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State. The Wolves will then return home to open the month of February with the annual I Hate Winter Weekend.
