Winona, Minn.- The Northern State University women's basketball team handed No. 9 Winona State their first loss of the 2015-16 season tonight from the McCown Gymnasium. The Wolves improve to 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference, while the Warriors drop to 13-1 overall and 6-1 in the NSIC.

Both Northern State and Winona State battled back and forth throughout the entire match as there were five ties and five lead changes throughout, however, NSU managed to stay ahead for 33:08 of play. With the score being 32-30 at the half in favor of the Wolves, Northern State came out in the third period looking to create a larger scoring gap. The team was successful as they gained the largest lead of nine points by the end of the quarter.

Leading in points for NSU was junior
Alexis Tappe, with 11 points, shooting 4-6 from field goal range. Sophomore
Miranda Ristau picked up a double double on the night, collecting 10 rebounds and 10 points against the Warriors. Lead scorer,
Jill Conrad, was close behind as she picked up 13 total rebounds and connected for nine points.
Devon Brecke and
Gabby Laimer also helped the offensive attack with eight points each.

Alexis Foley of Winona State recorded 22 total points and Kayla Timmerman added to her season total with 20 points.

Northern State outshot Winona State 41.8 percent to 34.5 percent in the match-up. Aggressive on the boards, the Wolves also recorded 44 total team rebounds, 14 more than Winona State. In the contest, NSU had 20 total points off the bench and 11 second chance points.

The Wolves will return to action tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. to take on Upper Iowa.
