Warwick Joins 1,000 Point Club, Leading Wolves in 68-64 Victory

Winona, Minn. – The Northern State University men's basketball team started 2016 out on a high note with a 68-64 victory over Winona State on the road. The Wolves improve to 7-6 overall and 3-4 in Northern Sun Conference play.
 
Skye Warwick lit up the second half for the Wolves with a game high 19 points. Warwick tallied is 1,000 career point on a long range bucket mid-way through the final 20 minutes of play, making him the 50th member of the Northern State 1,000 point club.
 
The Wolves trailed 37-24 after the first half of play shooting only 34.5 percent from the floor and 25.0 percent from 3-point range. They improved shooting 45.5 percent from the floor and 46.7 percent from the arch, while out-scoring the Warriors 44-27 in the second half.
 
Spencer Pankonin and Darin Peterka were second on the team with 14 points apiece in the victory. Bo Fries followed with an even ten points. Carter Evans led NSU with nine rebounds, as the team recorded 30 total on the night. Peterka and Warwick shot 5-of-11 and 5-of-12 from the floor to lead the Wolves.
 
Northern fought back in the second half from a 12 point deficit to tie the game with 13 minutes remaining in the half. The Warriors fought back throughout the remaining minutes tying the score with three minutes to play and sticking within five points of NSU. WSU resorted to the foul game, sending Darin Peterka, DJ Pollard, and Bo Fries to the line who shot 5-of-6 in the final two minutes of play.
 
Carter Evans and Mack Arvidson added five and three points for the Wolves in the win. Pankonin and Peterka were second on the team with five rebounds apiece, while Peterka led the team with four assists.
 
Northern looks to keep the ball rolling tomorrow at Upper Iowa University. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. following the women's game.
