Photo Gallery Aberdeen, S.D. – On a steamy day form Jerde Field, the Northern State University soccer team came away with their first victory of the season. NSU defeated Spring Hill College 2-1 to open the season. The Wolves improve to 1-0 on the year, while the Badgers fall to 0-1.
Northern played consistently on the SHC end in the first half, however came away with their first goal of the season off the foot of
Taven Morrison mid-way through the 33
rd minute. Morrison was in the right place at the right time as she caught the deflected save from
Anna Woern's hard box shot and connected with net.
Sydney Shintaffer came up big for NSU to end the half scoring her first goal of the season as well. Northern's eighth corner kick of the half by
Alexis Lewis was placed for Shintaffer to head it just over the keeper. Only five seconds remained on the first half clock. The Wolves tallied 17 shots in the half, to Spring Hills' five and a total of 26 in the game.
With a 2-0 lead heading into the second half NSU continued their attack. Spring Hill fought back with a score of their own in the 73
rd minutes however it was not enough.
Allie Macdonald led the Wolves with five shots and three shots on goal in the win, while
Anna Bondy and
Darian Leschewski each tallied four shots. Goalkeeper
Stacey Cavill earned her first win as a wolf tallying two saves in the game.
Northern will be back in action Sunday from Sioux Falls as they take on Southwest Baptist. Game time is set for 11 a.m. from the Augustana Vikings soccer complex.
