Sioux Falls, S.D.- The NSU women's soccer team fell to No. 23 Augustana University this afternoon with a final score of 2-0. Currently ranked second in NSIC standings, the Vikings improve to 4-0-1 in the conference and 6-1-1 overall. The Wolves drop to 2-2-1 in the conference and 4-3-1 overall.
Both teams remained scoreless in the first period, as the Wolves put up one lone shot to Augustana's nine. Action did not pick up until the 82
nd minute of the game when Viking's senior midfielder, Stephanie Steven's got a long pass from midfielder Ellie Knowles and connected for the first goal of the game. Just minutes later, Samantha Tymkowicz added another goal into the top of the net for the Vikings.
Northern was outshot 22-4 in the match, however the Vikings tallied only nine shots on goal. All four shots for the Wolves were on target, coming from
Kay Hernandez,
Anna Bondy,
Darian Leschewski, and
Anna Woern. Goalkeeper,
Brittany Tietz defended a total of nine Augustana corner kicks and compiled seven total saves on the day.
After a seven game road stretch, the Wolves return home to Jerde Field to take on Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State next weekend. Northern will face the Golden Bears on Saturday and the Mavericks on Sunday. Both games are scheduled for 1 p.m..
