Bismarck, N.D. – The Northern State University volleyball team opened the 2015 Northern Sun Conference season with a 3-0 victory over University of Mary. The No. 22 Wolves improve to 9-0 on the year and 1-0 in NSIC play, in their ninth straight 3-0 victory.
Northern took the match with set scores of 25-21, 25-19, and 25-16.
Kelsey Chambers led NSU with a season high 17 kills. Chambers hit .464, and add nine digs in the win.
Tori Biach also tallied double-digit kills with ten.
Kellie Schmit continued to hit well for the Wolves with a .400 mark and three kills. Schmit led the team with four block assists, followed by Chambers and Smith with two apiece.
Drew Smith added to her assist total with 32 on the night. Smith added 11 digs and one kill in her three sets of play. Senior
Renee Hoffman shined on both sides of the ball with a season high 19 digs and 11 assists.
Mandy Kurosky added nine kills to the teams 46 total on the night.
The Wolves hit .351 as a team, while holding the Marauders to a .095 mark. U-Mary tallied two players in double-digit kills, however racked up 18 attack errors and only 25 digs.
Next up for the Wolves is the 2015 home opener, Saturday versus Minot State. The Wolves and the Beavers will match-up at 4 p.m. from Wachs Arena. Northern will remain at home next Friday and Saturday versus No. 1 Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State for Gypsy Days Week.
